Extraction Technology: Can be used with water, or with oil as the solvent. Water is the perfect eco solvent for hemp flower and other botanicals, however oil is also a great solvent for extraction. Oil does not cavitate in this system, but does a rapid extraction from the nature of centrifugal process and the speed of the multiple staged rotors which expose the botanical material to solvent quickly. Oil extraction is another eco friendly extraction method to draw oils from botanical flowers. Processes Dry Hemp Flower: Any system that processes wet hemp flower is prone to breakdown, mold, mildew, and other nutrient depleting processes associated with decomposition. We recommend that hemp flower is separated from the plant (stalk) at harvest, then dried, and bagged (or vacuum bagged for better preservation). A dry hemp flower has better shelf life prior processing. If you only want to process wet, then stay with fly-by-night ethanol production, for a poor quality, and no-profit product. Consumers: Be weary of ethanol processed hemp extract and wet processing. Get and validate COA (certificate of analysis) for your product, to insure its authenticity.
The Problem With Large Scale Ethanol Batch Extraction: Typically, large scale ethanol extraction has a number of drawbacks. Since recycled ethanol is imperitive to low cost processing operation, the dilution of the pure ethanol becomes compromised (water keeps getting added) which results in poor extraction efficiency. In addition, ethanol has poor turpene retention (turpepes become volatile and simply evaporate). Finally, many ethanol processors who do a quick-turn extraction, end up with lots of bitter green tasting chlorophyll. To filter out that, they use activated carbon filters (referred to as carbon scrubbing), which also filter out most of the valuable components include CB ( source: Romano LL, Hazekamp A.
